Some patternmaking books use numbers as point names, this will make the use of these patternmaking book much easier.

I think this will change nothing. Plus we use this trick already for tool Rotation.

The point of this issue is to minimize the labels and make them consistent with patternmaking books.

Users have complained about how much space the labels use. Changing to lower case will reduce the size of labels on average by 30%.

The rotation point labels are very dense, eg 'A1a1'. Lower case point name with a suffix beginning with '-' or '_' would be an improvement. 'a1-1' or 'a1_1' is easier to see through.

User experience improvements can often seem petty and pointless, but little changes in UX can greatly improve usability.

This is completely different issue. It is a bad idea to use hacks like lower case letters.

    An idea for new issue.

Okay I defer to your assessment about lowercase vs. uppercase for default point names. But it's not a hack if it improves a problem and reflects user comments. Agreed we should add a new issue for rotation tool label.

No, we can do it now. No need to wait if it is what you want. But it is a temp solution and will not fix true issue with label size.

Right. Scaling the label size is a separate issue. But if the user experience is improved by using lowercase for labels then this is a win.
